Further afield:

Hauteluce:

A pretty little village 10 mins drive from Beaufort, hugging the mountainside, on route to Les Saisies. You can access both the slopes of Les Saisies and Les Contamines from here making it a useful destination in April when the slopes of Areches have closed.

One can also take a tour of the hydro-electric power station which is located beneath the Gittaz resevoir.

La Ferme de Chozal is a wonderful restaurant and is mentioned in the Michelin Guide.

Les Saisies:

A modern resort largely dominated by tourism. The slopes are geared towards beginners and intermediates but they are extensive and the lift system is modern. There is a brand new indoor swimming pool complex and in the summer there are numerous mountain bike trails with lifts serving them. There is also a fun mountain roller coaster called the Mountain Twister. Les Saises is a useful spot because like Les Contamines, the season extends into April.

Chambery:

Most British people know Chambery because they have landed there, however it is actually extremely picturesque. The heart of the city is medieval and is well worth a stroll. There is a monthly flea market in the summer and there are a good range of restaurants and shops.

Annecy:

Lake Annecy is a popular spot for a swim in the summer.  There are various 'beach' areas around its shore and one can hire pedaloes and windsurfs. The medieval part of the city is beautiful with pretty shops and restaurants and a lively atmosphere. Like Chambery it also has a large monthly antique market.
