Arêches:

Arêches is a peaceful village set in  a  grand landscape between Mont-Blanc and The Vanoise. Agriculture and tourism sit side by side and this has preserved the environment and the architecture which many other resorts have lost. The region is synonymous  with the famous cheese which is made in Beaufort down the road; this means that unlike other ski resorts, Arêches is a working village and open all year round.

There is a boulangerie, latterie, a couple of super markets, and fromagerie! There is an Intermarche down the road in Villard, about a 15 min drive away and 4 or 5 ski shops to rent equipment. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from offering traditional Savoie favourites like fondue and raclette, haute cuisine or something simpler like pizza. There is also a bank, post office, cash machine and a pretty little church with playground next door.
